Eric Moulder is PIVA’s founder and director of music.

Eric is a Renaissance polymath being interested in all aspects of creativity in the 16th century and is an internationally renowned instrument maker of historical reed instruments.  He lectured in both instrument technology and the history of music for many years at the London College of Furniture, the City of London Polytechnic and West Dean College. Being awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship bursary enabled him to travel and research surviving instruments and how they were used by musicians of the period. He has brought that understanding to the several groups he has played in.

He formed PIVA in 2002 specifically to revive interest in the Renaissance dance music repertoire and is responsible for many of the group’s arrangements.

In PIVA, Eric plays curtal, crumhorn, rauschpfeife, shawm, bagpipe and recorder
